Not Sure Where to Start with Solar and Battery Storage?

Not Sure Where to Start with Solar and Battery Storage?

  • Solar Panels
  • Battery Storage
  • Inverter

With the rising costs of gas and electricity bills, renewable energy is becoming easier to access and more beneficial. As accredited RECC, MCS, Napit, Trustmark and NICEIC approved contractors, our electricians are qualified to provide the best solutions and installations to suit your needs.

Our Process

The solar process can be a long one, but the end result makes it all worthwhile. As always, the first step is to get in touch. One of our friendly office staff will arrange an appointment for a solar technician to survey the property. If you have an existing system, the engineer will need to assess it while there. You can choose to have battery storage included with your solar system.

Depending on the size of the project will depend on how long it will take to receive your quote as we must apply for the relevant permissions and fill out the correct documentation.

Once you receive your estimate, we can arrange for our electricians to begin the installation. Please note that any works required before the installation will be specified and required to be completed before our engineers arrive. If you’re happy to go ahead with the work, simply send us back a signed copy of the contract and proposal by post or email.

When we receive the signed documents, a staff member will be in touch to book the works. If you are providing scaffolding, please ensure that it is ready before our electricians arrive on site!

After our engineers have completed the job, we will send you a handover pack that includes additional information about your solar system (and new battery and inverter: if relevant).

Commonly asked questions

Where is the best place to install solar panels?

The best place to install solar panels is so that they are south facing, east and west can also be viable options. We provide a free solar quote which will outline how many solar panels can be fitted onto the roof or ground and where the best place for them will be.

What is a feed-in tariff?

A feed-in tariff is what the National Grid gives for the excess energy your solar panels produce – paying per unit of energy.

What’s the difference between in-roof and on-roof solar panels?

On-roof solar panels require rails to be attached to the roof so that the panels can rest above it, where as in-roof panels are built into the roof. In-roof panels are popular with new builds or if a roof is being redone as the panels replace the roof tiles.

Do I need planning permission for solar panels?

Depending on the type of building. Planning permission must be given for ground mounted solar panels, rented properties and listed buildings.

Do I need to install a battery with my solar panels?

No. However, in most cases this is highly recommended, especially in the current climate. Depending on which inverter you have will depend on the cost of your battery as your inverter may need to be changed to a hybrid to enable charging of the battery.

What is an inverter?

An inverter converts the direct current (DC) from your solar panels into an alternating current (AC) to be used by your property. When including a battery, the inverter works to convert the current from DC (the battery) to AC (your property).

What are the different types of inverters?

The two types of inverters we use are hybrid and string inverters. For a solar system containing a battery, we will use a hybrid inverter and for a system without, we will install a string inverter.

Is there a limit to the amount of batteries I can install?

No. However, it is designed on a job-by-job basis to get the best efficiency and keep it cost effective.

Here is what Jim Woodhead, Chairman of Holmbridge Cricket Club says about our services:

We have used Green View Projects as our preferred supplier for the installation for a solar generating system for our clubhouse and they have been outstanding at every turn.  From the initial project scoping, quoting and planning of the system, through to the installation and on-going support we have been nothing but happy.  When we stepped into this new world of sustainable power generation, we knew what we wanted but not what we needed and therefore, It is essential that the people who support and advise us are honest and transparent.  Green View were more than that.  They were uniquely helpful and supportive.  They gave us choice and options but also empowered us with the information we needed to make good choices.  The installation was amazing.  It was prompt, clean and tidy and that made all the difference to our small club.  Our installation was complete in a couple of days and there was barely a speck of dust left behind to show that they’d been on site.  All of this combined with amazing value for money coupled with excellent service.  I cannot recommend Green View Projects highly enough.
